OST rocks, not the movie…

The Last Samurai

After n times watching it (and my recent one just couple days ago), I hereby conclude that the movie, The Last Samurai, is indeed a slow movie. From the beginning to the ending, the storyline is way too slow for my liking. However, the OST is widely recommended. Composed by Hans Zimmer (the same dude who did for Kung Fu Panda movie), this soundtrack just pawns the movie..

Note : Somehow, emperor’s voice sounds alright when he speaks in Japanese but the moment he utters something in English, he sounds a lil ………….

Confessions of an EHM

Confessions of an EHM

Currently, I’m reading this intriguing book. Authored by John Perkins, it is about a life story of a man being an EHM (a.k.a. Economic Hit Man). It tells about of crude tricks and lies being played by ‘big powers’ of the world in order to selfishly gain something from poorer countries. Besides, it briefly explains how the rich gets richers while the poor grew poorer, who started all these debts games and why ‘an accident’ is not really an accident after all.

How Starbucks Saved My Life

Now, I don’t really like to read books because most of them I find it boring.

How Starbucks Saved My Life

How Starbucks Saved My Life

However, upon stumbled across this book, “How Starbucks Saved My Life“, by chance in Times Bookstore at Pavilion shopping mall, I got hooked to it so badly that I finished it (265 pages) within two days. The fonts might be bigger than those usual boring storybooks so book lovers could probably finish it in a day or less. However, it is not the fonts which attracts my attention but it is the story which I fond of. Not only it describes of an aging man, who owned almost everything, to lose everything and to gain back something but it also briefly describes about the working culture in US, working culture in Starbucks, what team spirit really means and one’s perspective towards different ethnic and social background in working world.

This book is probably one of the best books I have read so far besides The Kite Runner and 1421. It is currently selling at RM69.90 in MPH Bookstore.

Freakshow

Pop Shuvit - Freakshow

Pop Shuvit - Freakshow (Vol 1 : Tales of the Travelling Tunes)

I’ve been listening to this album, by Pop Shuvit, day in day out for the past 2~3 weeks. It is pretty refreshing from one of Malaysia’s top English act. I’m not sure what genre it falls under but it sounds a lil like Linkin Park minus Chester Bennington’s singing and angst emotion. Moots (the lead singer) handled the rapping (in English and Bahasa Malaysia) area pretty good while the rest of the group just blended the music together flawlessly.

This album consists of 13 songs. Not all of them are in English. There are a few Malay songs and Spanish in there. A few songs you might heard of over the radio, i.e. Freakshow (collaborated with Silk Sound) and Mara Bahaya (Original Soundtrack for Impak Maksima). But there are more songs from the album that you should listen to. They took the effort to collaborate with international artists such as Nitro Y Fanta, Dabo, DJ Cheapshot etc. to explore a wider range of music. Upon hearing Rockera (one of my favourite track), it is amazing to hear that reggaeton mixed with rock so well under their arrangement. At end of the day, they had made the right choice as collaboration with these artists makes the album richer with different approach.

Overall, it is one of the best Malaysian album I have ever purchased. It is all about the rapping, collaboration, the rythmic guitars and arrangement. They all performed so well that truly reflects on their talent in music industry. No doubt, this is gonna one of the best and well produced by a Malaysian band.
